Troubleshooting Garage Doors
Bottom of the door is up on one side, cock eyed, jammed or uneven
Cause: Frayed or broken cable.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door -Frayed cable should be replaced before it breaks.
Cause: Worn extension spring cable pulleys.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door -Pulleys should be replaced.
Cause: Broken extension spring.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door to replace extension springs.
Door opens slowly or only goes up a foot or so and stops or won't open at all
Cause: Broken torsion or extension spring.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door - your spring should be replaced - if you have to springs both should be replaced as they have gone up and down the same number of times and the other may break in the near future.
Cause: Track is bent or set too tightly.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door to straighten, adjust or replace track.
Door won't stay open
Cause: Spring tension has loosened.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door to add tension to springs.
Loud bang before the door quit working
Cause: Broken spring.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door - your spring should be replaced - if you have to springs both should be replaced as they have gone up and down the same number of times and the other may break in the near future.
Opener is straining as the door opens
Cause: Broken torsion spring.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door - your spring should be replaced - if you have to springs both should be replaced as they have gone up and down the same number of times and the other may break in the near future.
Popping sound as the door operates
Cause: Worn Rollers
Solution: Replace the worn rollers - recommend servicing entire door, lubricating door parts.
Rear support for the upper track is broken
Cause: Broken extension spring and/or Broken extension spring cable.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door to replace spring and/or cable.
Cause: End bearing plate is tilted, Frayed cable, Misaligned reinforcing strut OR worn extension spring cable pulleys.
Solution: Call Coast Garage Door to Straighten or reinforce the bearing plate as needed. File the shaft and replace the bearing as needed, Replace cables as necessary. Space the strut evenly on the sections or Replace worn pulleys.
Door Squeaks
Cause: Dry rollers, bearings or hinges.
Solution: Lubricate as needed - DO NOT use WD40 or heavy oils as they attract dust and grit which may cause ongoing problems.
